2015 BCC in Lake Louise, Alberta
Introducing Wendy Benson & Bob Willson
We were well into our 30s when we met. We had observed enough relationships – our parents, siblings and friends – that we knew we needed ideas and coaching to create a strong, constructive and positive way of communicating. And that brought us to our first Couple’s Conference in 1991, a few months before we were married.
We have attended about 15 times over the last 25 years. The weekend allows us time to truly connect and deepen our ongoing love, respect and understanding of each other.  While the heart of each conference is communication and listening, deep, very deep listening, we always learn a few new strategies to sustain us for a year or two.
The most meaningful habit we have adopted includes spending most Sunday evenings as ‘our time’.  We share our passion, cooking and enjoying a nice meal, share cleanup and a chance to talk about our heart’s enjoyments and concerns. The heartfelt talking and listening then sustains us for another week, perhaps two.
Both of us are convinced without learning various strategies to listen with honour and intention, our marriage would have gone another way.
As we approach our 25th anniversary, we owe our ‘marriage wellbeing’ to the Banff Couple’s Conference.
Over the years we have admired the many people who have volunteered for the conference and always earning the respect of the participants and amazement of our couple facilitators. Finally, the time has come where we can commit to volunteering for Banff Couples Conference and meet other dedicated folks. We are truly enjoying being the Secretary and Treasurer for this amazing conference.
